Ground Control to Major D

You may recall the Sun headline before the 1992 General Election, which went something along the lines of: "If Neil Kinnock is PM by the morning, would the last one out turn off the light?"

He was every bit of a disaster that the Sun rag had him down as. In 2001, the left gleefully turned the legendary Sun header on its, er...head. But using this catchy phrase in reverse against the Conservative's William Hague.

Whenever an unpopular politician comes along to vie for power, people often make bold pronouncements. These days, people can often be heard saying that if Brown gets back into power after the next election, emigration will be firmly on the agenda.

But what do you do, whether you're British, French, Zimbabwean, Iranian or whatever, if Sarah Palin wins the 2012 US Presidential election?

You can't leave planet earth can you? And that's what you'd have to do to get away from the disastrous fall-out from a Palin presidency. Because the whole world would inevitably wind up in smoke if she got in. On account of her being a far right wing, authoritarian extremist idiot.

The Graun loves Sarah Palin. She stands against everything they believe in, but whenever she speaks, she says something that even the most retarded liberal can easily poke holes in. She is not only a perfect hate figure, she is also the perfect straw man, confirming every liberal prejudice while also confirming left-wing intellectual superiority. The Graun couldn't ask for a better conservative.

But I am not sure she is any more dangerous than Clinton or Obama. I find myself wishing that Britain had opposition politicians like her - people who are totally different to the incumbent government, instead of "Call Me Dave". Where are our "tea parties"? Why is our grassroots anti-statist movement (the LPUK?) so unpopular, while the American one is so successful?

She's a populist politician, and reflects quite fairly the US aspirational working classes I think.

I do think she's a bit of a Nadine Dorries figure (the media think more of her than the power in her party).

Truthfully I don't think she'd be nearly as bad as another four years of Billary for the world. And Obama is losing his sheen really fast. His bluster turns out to have been mostly just that. My prediction for him is disaster for the US economy, foreign policy and so much division domestically that there'll be riots in the street the likes not seen for 20 years.

But that's just me.

Because they are as useless as two tits on a boar.

@0157. Hehe, that was a bit of a leading question!

I suppose it highlights the cultural difference between us and the Americans. They're suspicious of the government, while we (collectively) assume that it can't ever be changed and grudgingly accept it. Not for the first time I wonder if I'd be happier living over there.
