What's the point in 'Old Holborn'?

'Old Holborn' likes dressing up in a mask and going around London winding up cops.

Fine, we all have our quirks. But this fucker really thinks he is some cool, crusading freedom fighter, and he and his band of web-based arselickers can't get enough of it. He's like Crystal Meth for the politically remedial.

I went on to the article's comment section to (quite rudely too, if I'm being honest) ask about the point and the logic of 'Old Holborn's' exercise in the puerile and the juvenile.

OH has not been on yet to reply, as he's probably eating a kebab and tossing off right now, but his fan base have had a good go at it with the usual astounding levels of non sequiturs, misquoting, misrepresentation and odd racism.

I mean, who doesn't know that if you ask a cop for his number, station and other details, he must provide them? OK, let's assume you didn't know that. Well, er, maybe now you do.

So?

What does this prove? Certain people in authority are bound by some rules. OH is trying to catch them out. If he did, he would prove what? That a one off bobby didn't get it quite right?

If he wants to question authority and their rights to do stuff, and if he wants to oppose draconian state behaviour, that is noble - but he is going about it in totally the wrong way here. His beef should surely be with the big wigs. The top cops at ACPO and the politicians.

So why not protest at them?

Probably because that would take some intelligence and it wouldn't serve to flatter the man's incredible ego and insatiable lust of self-promotion in any given form it may materialise. He loves seeing pictures of himself (well, a blobby figure in a mask) all over the net.

Lovely stuff, Holby. I'm sure your grandkids will be proud. That is if they are not confiscated by the evil Stasi who are poised at any given moment to crush the prols beneath their tanks.

Pillock.

You know, you do some really interesting and thought provoking stuff here occasionally and then you do stuff like this, so you don't like Old Holborn? We know this, you don't have to keep telling us or your myriad of reasons why, give it a rest, this sort of stuff got real old quite some time ago.

Mummylonglegs said...

Over at OH's place you ask the question

Very good. Now here's a question...what's the fucking point?

I was under the impression that the point of the protest was to make the general public aware that Section 44 is being used to target innocent photographers (and many other groups) on the spurious grounds of preventing terrorism. I believe that the protest hoped to highlight the fact that if you are stopped and searched under section 44 you have the right to refuse (I could be wrong here)and the right to request the officers details which you can then use to question the original grounds of the stop and search if you want to.

It was a genuine protest you fucking arrogant bellend. OH was there doing his bit in the way he wants to do it- and where the fuck were you? Fucking sat at home sneering at Holby? On occasions you come up with some thought-provoking stuff, but this blog-war is getting tedious and making you look like a right nasty fucking cockweasel to boot.

That blogwar traffic is addictive, isn't it?

When I read articles like this on your site I begin to wonder "What's the point of B&D?".

Do what you do do well...like you used to.

Go on! You still believe in Father fuckin christmas and the tooth fairy as well, and that "we should have NEGOTIATED with Hitler after he invaded Poland, right?

Well dumb nuts, just when was the last time any of THOSE shower of cretins on your list LISTENED to any one that did not support their own world view to every comma and full stop?

You really ARE a pathetic little naive wanker, you know that?

The protest had some useful news coverage (though not much, as expected) from the BBC. Were you there too?
And despite your own excellent grasp of the law, many were unsure of their rights and will now have a better idea.
But your juvenile feud with OH is getting
silly and detracting from what was once an informative and intelligent blog - shame.

J Demetriou said...

"...many were unsure of their rights and will now have a better idea."

How do you know? Can you demonstrate this in any meaningful way?

I'd have considered it far more worthwile to write a blog piece about police powers and the rights of the individual. He gets enough 'traffic' for that to make a difference, surely?

As it stands, his little PR stunt (which seems to have bowled people over with such mesmerising, potent effect, one could be forgiven for thinking he had come up with the cure for cancer) merely served to bump up his personal profile.

I doubt very much that this low grade stunt got many people asking the right sort of questions.

If he really wants to reach his target audience, he and his mate Guido would try and get a slot on radio, TV or even on a paper (print, online) to tell people the score.

He prefers this sort of thing, for reasons I have explained.

Thanks for coming here though, Country Club fans, I really appreciate the comments. They tell me much. Much more than you probably realise.

Oh, and Rab? Fuck you.

Why don't you do an Obnoxio, and publish his name and address?

J Demetriou said...

Because a) I don't know it, and b) that would be bang out of order.

I don't have a death wish against him, I just utterly oppose his politics, his behaviour, his modus operandi and his general attitude.

Anonymous said...

You don't 'utterly oppose' his politics at all. Just 'somewhat disagree'.

It just so happens you're a very disturbed individual who likes to pick fights for no reason whatsoever.

You and your buddy are poster boys for 'taking things too personally'.

Outed said...

Even though you do not approve of his methods, would you deny OH the right to protest as he sees fit? Why does there have to be a point to it? Why does it have to prove something? You think he is going about things the wrong way, that is very clear, but you sound like you would stop him if you could.

Obnoxio The Clown said...

"Why don't you do an Obnoxio, and publish his name and address?"

Never let the facts get in the way of a good smear, eh?

Private Widdle said...

Why do you assume that those who disagree with you are part of some sort of "country club"?

Just because I might stick up for Holby's right to take the piss out of plod whilst making (in my estimation) a valid point doesn't mean I'm in agreement with anything and everything he says or does. (In fact, some of what he says is bollocks, but for every bit of shite there's some genuine nugget of horse-sense). The same applies to others who've responded to this post. Why the Manichean view? Why the aggression and nastiness and fucking arrogance? You're not helping yourself at all.

Old Holborn knows the point of his blog. OH has a bloggin mate called Guthrum who sometimes blogs on OH. Guthrum has his own blog called Looking for a voice. Have you read it recently?

Old Holborn Windowlicker said...

I hate Pakis and niggers and I have a chin that goes down to my knees. Which I have three of.

Dazed And Confused said...

The point of Old Holborn is simple. He's the character that above all others, give a lot of us the inspiration not only to question so called authority, but also start up blogs and websites of our own. Whether our blogs be worthwhile or not, at least we're venting our frustrations with this current out dated system in some kind of way.

What do you suggest? Iain Dale versus Labour List as the cutting edge in blogsphere argument?

Anonymous said...

"Not penalising young drivers off the road with extortionate insurance premiums, to the point it is cheap to take the fine. "

OH's mate Guthrum wrote the above on his blog "Looking for a voice" a couple of weeks ago. This geezer thinks that the market rate of insurance premiums for young drivers is a problem. Is he calling for government intervention? I don't know. What I do know is that government intervention there would be counterproductive as the costs would just be shifted to other drivers. I doubt even John Prescott would argue for that! But OH's blog team mate Guthrum does on his own blog & nobody questions it even though you are all meant to be libertarians. I am surprised B&D have not confronted the "country club" member who wants to see a further tax on middle age drivers so that twentysomethings can have a few bob spare. I wonder if B&D actually have the balls to take on the coutry club on a suibstantive issue such as this or whether they will just troll them instead.

@Rab, interesting. Who did your avatar by the way, I like it?

@Holby-poos. Well, it's what you blog for isn't it so well done, you got your attention and your ego boost.

......

I once saw something about tree huggers, terrorists, animal rightists and so on. The conclusion was that all of them do what they do because they crave the feeling of belonging to a cause, a rebellion and if they weren't setting mink free and torching farmers dead grans, then they would be blowing up car bombs or campaigning against capitalism.

You see, what they wanted was the attention, the 'respect' from their peers, the perception of power they garnered from being a slightly fatter fish than most in what they saw as a big important pond, but which was actually a puddle. Doesn't matter how they got it, as long as they did.

But they didn't really believe what they were doing because that isn't why they were doing it. They just wanted to be the Big I Am.

Anyone see Day of the Triffids on the telly recently? Eddie Izzard's character?

Although he had no talent and was a nobody, he uses the moment, the unique environment he finds himself in, to become a someone. He promises salvation, but all he wants is the power and the position and the control. He attacks those who really are trying to make the world better but in a different way and who see him for what he is, but his followers are blind to it because they want a piece of that pie.

In the end him and his followers end up getting eaten by the Triffs. And nobody cares.

I couldn't care less. Protest is protest.

Would you like me to republish this post of yours at Old Holborn?

Old Holborn reminds me of Toby Young, as seen in 'how to lose friends and alienate people'.

He's a total no-mark twat, but someone who has for one reason or another, got lucky and a bit famous for, well...being a bit of a twat.

He's charmless, low of intellect, utterly incapable of rational, normal, constructive debate, and he is a poser.

Tell me, OH, if the Terrorism Act of 2000 wasn't introduced, what would you protest about then? PACE powers? Howard's '93 Criminal Justice Bill? Or would you stick to moaning about speed cameras and on-the-spot fines?

J Demetriou said...

'Outed' whines thus:

"Even though you do not approve of his methods, would you deny OH the right to protest as he sees fit?"

My answer: No.

Interestingly, the Propertarian Party (aka the LPUK) would be delighted to see his free speech crushed...that is, if the owner of the land upon which OH carried out his protest decided he didn't want him doing his thing there.

How do you say, "their property, their rules?"

Oh what a tangled web you have spun, you fake-arsed propertarian cunts.

Obnoxio The Clown said...

"Well, it's what you blog for isn't it so well done, you got your attention and your ego boost."

Ipse dixit.

"Oh what a tangled web you have spun, you fake-arsed propertarian cunts."

But he holds his protest on common land, where it is absolutely right and proper for him to have complete freedom of speech. You keep on banging on about this, but I don't see a lot of support for your point of view, even with other non-property-rights members of LPUK.

I can't see all property (in the land sense) ever being owned by everyone, let alone a small enough coterie of shadowy people who will then use this to diminish our free speech.

But once again, you are making up a problem that does not exist. The LPUK is avowedly minarchist and not nearly minarchist enough, even by the textbook definition of minarchism - let alone by an AnCap definition.

You sound like a LabourList activist looking at Cameron's Tories and claiming that they're going to sling dole scroungers out onto the street or shut down the NHS. Neither of those actions is Tory policy, and there is no indication to an impartial observer that either of them would ever happen. Yet you persist in promoting this myth.

That really did make me laugh. I've shed a little tear as it goes.

I can see it now, 'OH brings down state, gov says 'he was always a thorn in our side''.

We not having a 'blog war', for fuck sake. You see no problem with telling the press what's what, but you do have a problem with telling the same to a blog that is on a similar scale?

Nice one, that makes fucking sense doesn't it.

We question the decision makers and the opinion formers, no matter the scale or left right or centre. That's how it should be.

What you are doing is blindly following the leader. We're not asking you to follow us, we asking you to open your fucking eyes and question

Bring it on, I don't care, unlike Holby who is scared he'll lose his little ego tripping power boost.

"what is the point of your blog?

10 thousand words when 100 would do"

Um, hate to break it to you, but we write our blog for us, not you or anyone else. We write long, in depth comment, our opinions and views. Anyone can write 50 word youtube clips, or DKesque block quotes and a one line conclusion. We don't do populism, if you disagree then good, fine by me.

I don't want to write 100, I want to do 1000 (have you ever seen 10,000? I'm guessing you are under 18 bofl). It's my blog and I'll write what I bloody want thanks.

But no, you'd rather hero worship a fat twat in his mid 40s who walks around in a mask and writes utter shite a million times a day in order to revel in the glory.

bofl, you think I'm wrong. Fair enough. What do you want me to do, attempt to argue with someone who uses '....' as punctuation? I've laid out my views, there they are for all to see. Comment away if you want to.

I have no idea what OTOH is Harry, sorry. And I have no idea what you are talking about.
