Scientology, what a load of shit. It is something that I fail to see why on earth people would bother with it. If you want to believe in something that is made up clap trap with a good dose of mysticism and controlled by some group of unseen people, the Christian faith already exists. Go do that.
And now there is this article about the British effort to establish how made up this 'church' is 30 years ago.
The position is L Ron Hubbard (and others) acquired premises somewhere in Los Angeles which they had registered as a university called Sequoia and immediately awarded each other doctorates.Yet people continue to sign up. I do give these morons the benefit of the doubt though, because Scientologists are a class above, they really are. In my local high street they operate a recruitment campaign, if you know what to look for. What they actually have is a Swing band playing some shockingly awful fifties rubbish and in the corner of their banner, in tiny letters, they have a sponsored by the church of scientology.
Then next to the stage they have a desk selling books. Hubbard guides of course. Ah, but that would itself be too obvious so that banner says 'Free stress tests' and they have that stupid little machine taken from a sixties arcade game. Amazingly, everyone is stressed and needs a book.
While the band 'plays' and idiots gather to watch, a very odd woman who looks like a member of the Plymouth Brethren on acid in Haight-Ashbury hands out leaflets. What really pisses me off here is that, because of the music and the time of day, all the people are seventy plus. Handy for pensions I would guess.
If they are so confident that they are so great, why don't they just have a stall with a big fuck off banner declaring they are Scientologists?
Boatang and Demetriou undercover at a Scientology convention last year
In the UK we don't recognise them but do give them exemption from VAT. Although we do see them as a religion in the Royal Navy for some reason.
Here's a revelation for you: Chief Superintendent Kevin Hurley has been bought by the 'church' and praises it often. He even opened their HQ in the City in 2006. As shown in this article in the Guardian. Indeed one Superintendent clearly accepted a bribe when a member bought his lunch. In fact it isn't just Hurley who is corrupt, the endless cycle of gifts and hospitality suddenly thrown at the police were also signed off by Frank Armstrong, Assistant Commissioner of City Police and Chief Superintendent Ken Stewart.
Nice to know that such senior people haven't been bought by a cult isn't it. It also has nothing to do with their reaction to a teenager holding a board with 'Cult' on it last year. It's also good to know that they donate large sums of cash to Labour and have had a stall at conference.
This nasty little bunch of shits suck up and infiltrate every single facet of a country's power base. They hide behind jive bands in high streets and give old ladies 'stress tests'. The fact they do this without saying they are doing it exposes them for exactly what they are, a shady cult. Completely fake and based on nothing more than the rambling (and shit) writings of a science-fiction writer.
Anyone who saw the Louis Theroux expose a while back will know exactly what they are like. A court judgement in the UK in the 80s declared them cult, I just wish we would make that official and conduct a serious investigation into their links with the police.

Reminds me of this - Tom Cruise making it clear that you should not get involved with this set of KPers.

Ah yes, the public face Mr T Cruise. Not in anyway a total flapjack.
Isn't it strange that the people who are really into it, the actors that really beleive, have destroyed their careers over it. Cruise and Travolta.
I was actually thinking about this the other day and considered asking either yourself or Mr D about the subject. I came to the conclusion that the CoS is nothing more than a country club for the wealthy and/or stupid.
Scientology is classified as a "religion" in the US. This is why it is tax exempt. You should see what they did to the IRS to get the classification. It's quite interesting.
"You should see what they did to the IRS to get the classification. It's quite interesting."
You could just tell us.
It would take a bit to detail what the Scien's did to cow the IRS in the US, but I'll give it a go. It is long and complex(took place over twenty+ years), but the short of it is that they launched 50 lawsuits against the IRS, destroyed and redacted unfavorable documents, infiltrated government offices, harassed officials, launched front groups to hide money and to attack the IRS, and then finally offered to stop it all if the IRS would grant them tax exempt status. The IRS caved, and made the agreement, which was then sealed.
Parts of it were later leaked, and revealed that Scien was granted benefits no other religion enjoys, and that financial irregularities were ignored. The remainder of the agreement and related documents are still unavailable to the public.
You're not getting away with that picture, Boatang.
You slag.
if you read the establishment clause of the first amendment of the United States Constitution, scientology is not seen as a religion in the United states.that is, they might be able to be considered one if their willing to give up a few of the perks they get that real religions dont.
Brilliant.
I wasn't aware that Scientology was a religion at all in America. In fact according to Wiki
" Scientology is legally recognized as a tax-exempt religion in the United States and the Church of Scientology emphasizes this as proof that it is a bona fide religion"
